Creating Quality of Life


The second in a six part video series, Dr. Gerald Gordon explains why economic development is really about quality of life. TRANSCRIPT: When people think about the Economic Development Authority and economic development generally, they think about bringing jobs and wealth to a community and stability in the local economy and public—it’s really about more than that. Those are means to an end. Those are means to the end—the midpoint end—of creating a tax base that helps to offset the cost of residential public services. But the real end is quality of life because what we do is provide the elected officials of Fairfax County with the tax base that enables them to lower residential and business taxes while the community continues to grow but while providing high quality public education, the safest communities in America, public works that are actually exactly that—public works, there are many parts of the country where they’re really public don’t works—and this is what we’ve created here in Fairfax County. But it’s a collaborative effort.
